Redrow announces two new ‘Junior Heads of Play’

4th August 2023

We have appointed two very special new team members.

Following a nationwide search to find the country’s top playmaker, twins Willow and Indy, aged nine, who live at Redrow South West’s Woodborough Grange, on Woodborough Road, have been named as Redrow’s ‘Junior Heads of Play’.

The competition required the girls to design their dream play area and impressed by their imaginative and exciting concept, the judges knew Willow and Indy would be excellent advisors, rewarding them with a £500 Argos voucher to go towards their own playmaking.

The fun-loving duo designed a 3D model of their dream play area, complete with a rainbow-themed gazebo for playing games and dancing, as well as a football pitch, plenty of green space full of daisies for making daisy chains and even a red-carpet walkway leading to a sweet shop.

In their new role, Willow and Indy will be working closely with Redrow to advise on their favourite play areas and equipment – providing expert advice directly from those who use the facilities most. Already getting stuck into the job, the girls were invited to open Woodborough Grange’s newest play area, which features classic favourites such as a climbing frame, slide and seesaw.

Commenting on their win, Willow said: “I can’t believe we won! I loved meeting the play area designers and I am super excited to make the best park ever.”

Indy added: “It was really fun to make our model, I can’t wait to see a real spinning rainbow gazebo and show our friends!”

The competition is part of the Playmaking campaign, developed to encourage youngsters to play outside more. The initiative was inspired by findings that two thirds of parents across the UK say their child plays outside for less time than their generation did*.

Throughout summer, Redrow is encouraging children to ‘please play here’, offering free play events and packs including a yoyo, chalk and a frisbee at developments across the country.

*Consumer research conducted by Opinium on behalf of Redrow. Nationally representative sample of 2,000 UK parents of children aged 4-17, the survey was conducted online between 9th and 14th June 2023.
